Land Dag 2018, uitnodiging Palestijnse ambassadeur

Yesterday March 30th marked Land Day in Palestine. It is the day on which we commemorate the mass expropriation 42 years ago of Palestinians’ Lands in the Galilee by Israel. Six Palestinians were killed and many injured in the events at the time.

Yesterday and in the coming weeks, again my people stand up in protest against the ongoing brutality of the military occupation that we are forced to live under. Against mass imprisonment, humiliation, and dispossession.

In peaceful protests behind Israel’s high security fence around Gaza, my people again were massacred by Israeli sniper and artillery fire. According to the latest figures, 16 of my countryman have been martyred. Hundreds more are in hospital for treatment from the tons of teargas that is being dropped on them by unmanned drones, Israel’s latest technological feat.

For this reason, President Abbas announced today March 31st, to be a national day of mourning. This morning I lowered the flag at our Mission in The Hague half mast.

I call on all our friends in the Netherlands, all those active in civil society, to renew your courageous efforts to bring justice to my people in Palestine and the refugee diaspora. You cannot imagine how much your support means to us, support that we cannot do without.

I appeal to everyone to take a principled and active stance on yesterday’s events and urge the international community not to allow this to be just another tragedy in the suffering of my people.

Because just like Ahed Tamimi stated during her mock trial in which she was sentenced to 8 months imprisonment: there is no justice under occupation.

Yours Sincerely,

Ambassador Rawan Sulaiman, Head of the Palestinian Mission in the Hague

On Wednesday April 4th the Mission will open for anyone wishing to pay its condoleances, light a candle, say a prayer, write condoleances or show respect and sympathy in any other way. Everyone is invited between 10:00 – 17:00 at the Palestinian Mission, Nieuwe Parklaan 23, The Hague.
