Vele prominente internationale artiesten roepen op tot boycot van Eurovisie 2019 in Israel
Artiesten uit Europa en daarbuiten steunen de oproep van Palestijnse artiesten om het Eurovisie Songfestival in Israel volgend jaar te boycotten.

Wij, ondergetekende artiesten en kunstenaars uit Europa en daarbuiten, steunen de oproep van Palestijnse kunstenaars en artiesten om het Eurovisie Songfestival 2019 met Israel als gastland te boycotten. Tot de Palestijnen kunnen genieten van hun vrijheid, gerechtigheid en gelijke rechten, moet er geen business-as-usual plaatsvinden met de staat die hen hun meest basale rechten ontneemt.
Op 14 mei, slechts een paar dagen na de festivalwinst van Israel, schoot het Israelische leger 62 ongewapende Palestijnse demonstranten dood in Gaza, waaronder zes kinderen, en verwondden ze er honderden, de meesten met scherpe munitie. Amnesty International veroordeelde het Israelische beleid van ‘schiet om te doden of verminken’ policy en Human Rights Watch noemde het ‘onwettige en berekende moorden’.
Het Eurovisie songfestival 2019 moet geboycot worden als Israel het gastland is terwijl het doorgaat met de ernstige, al decennia durende schendingen van de Palestijnse mensenrechten. Wij hebben begrepen dat de European Broadcasting Union eist dat Israel een “niet-controversiële” locatie kiest voor het Eurovisie Songfestival 2019. Het zou Israel sowieso als gastland moeten schrappen en het festival verplaatsen naar een ander land met een betere reputatie wat betreft mensenrechten. Onrecht verdeelt, terwijl het nastreven van waardigheid en mensenrechten verbindt.
