8 en 9 feb. Amsterdam: Palestinian Film Festival
Palestinian Film Festival Amsterdam (in collaboration with Jeffrey’s Underground Cinemas)
Location: Filmhuis Cavia, van Hallstraat 52-1, Amsterdam
Date: Saturday 8 & Sunday 9 February 2020
One block: €5 (Cineville valid)
Day ticket: €12
This year the PFFA is collaborating with Jeffrey’s Underground Cinemas, a veteran film programmer who has been showing rare, often unseen and culturally significant films at autonomous Amsterdam venues for over a decade. Filmhuis Cavia, an intimate, non-profit movie theatre that has maintained its unconventional community-based ideology for thirty years, will host the festival during the weekend of Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 February. Our intention is to remain accessible to a diverse audience with low ticket costs, reaching a melting pot of cinephiles.
While the inaugural edition in 2015 focused on modern Palestinian cinema, the 2020 festival will go back in time, mainly showing documentaries and shorts, while also introducing some impressive drama fictions. The selection at both editions of the PFFA features a majority of female directors.
We also have a guest this year! Mohanad Yaqubi is a filmmaker, producer, and one of the founders of the Ramallah-based production house, Idioms Film. He will show his historical documentary Off Frame aka Revolution Until Victory on Saturday 8 February at 20:00, which will be followed by a discussion on Palestinian Cinema.
