De Engelstalige website www.palestinecinema.com is online! De website bevat een database met gegevens over meer dan 1000 documentaires en fictiefilms. Zowel korte als lange, films die een goed beeld van de Palestijnse werkelijkheid geven en daarmee als tegenwicht dienen voor de doorgaans gebrekkige berichtgeving in de media. Hiermee willen we bevorderen dat deze films vaker worden vertoond én gezien, zodat er mondiaal meer begrip en sympathie voor de Palestijnse zaak ontstaat.
Onder ‘Palestijnse Cinema’ rekenen we niet alleen films van regisseurs met een Palestijnse nationaliteit/achtergrond, al vormen die wel de hoofdmoot van de database. Een deel van de films is echter van andere regisseurs, Ons belangrijkste criterium om een film in de database op te nemen is: maakt de film iets duidelijk over het lot van de Palestijnen en hun conflict met Israël?
Van elke filmtitel vermeldt de database: naam regisseur, lengte en onderwerp van de film, en jaar van uitkomen. Indien deze te vinden was, wordt na een klik op de titel ook een uitgebreide filmbeschrijving zichtbaar, plus een link naar een trailer en (soms) een volledige versie.
Een handige zoekmanier is door bij ‘Search’ enkele steekwoorden in te voeren. Als je bijvoorbeeld bij Search ‘women’ en ‘Gaza’ invoert, verschijnt er een ruime lijst met titels hierover, waarin je kunt bekijken wat er van je gading is.
Vrijwel elke week verschijnen er wel nieuwe ‘Palestijnse’ films. Dit impliceert dat de database per definitie achterloopt. Als u iets over zeer recente titels wilt weten, kunnen we op verzoek (per email naar: [email protected]) een lijst doormailen.
De website bevat ook een rubriek ‘News’, met o.a. informatie over binnenkort te verwachten festivals met ‘Palestijnse’ films. Ook hiervoor geldt: mail ons als we iets hebben gemist!

DATABASE “PALESTINECINEMA.COM” IS ONLINE!
This English-language database www.palestinecinema.com currently contains data on more than 1000 short and long documentaries and fiction films that provide a good picture of Palestinian reality and thus serve as a counterbalance to the – on average – inadequate reporting in the media. By this means we want to promote that these films are screened and seen more often, so that worldwide there is more understanding and sympathy for the Palestinian cause.
Under the heading “Palestinian Cinema” we do not only include films by directors with a Palestinian nationality / background, although they do form the bulk of the database. However, some of the films are by other directors. Our main criterion for including a film in the database is: does the film clarify the fate of the Palestinians and their conflict with Israel?
For each film title, the database states: name of director, length and subject of the film, and year of release. If this is available, by clicking on the title a detailed film description becomes visible, plus a link to a trailer and (sometimes) a full version.
A handy search method is by entering a few keywords in “Search”. For example, if you enter ‘women’ and ‘Gaza’ in Search, a large list of titles about this will appear, which will enable you to determine what is to your liking.
New “Palestinian” films appear almost every week. This implies that the database is by definition out of date. If you would like to know something about very recent titles, we can email a list on request (please send your email to: [email protected]).
The website also contains a ‘News’ section, including information about upcoming festivals viewing ‘Palestinian’ films.
